A Taiwanese news reader was reduced to tears after she unknowingly delivered the news of her colleague's death. Tears well in the anchor's eyes and her voice quivers as she reads the breaking news from a teleprompter. It quickly becomes clear that she is learning of his death for the first time.
"It is reported that CTiTV's news anchor Erich Shi-wei Shih has been found dead in his house in Taipei. No note was left," she reads. "His wife became extremely agitated when she returned home to the fact. "We will report further information if we get any," she adds, now struggling to contain her grief.
Veteran reporter Shih, 46, worked as a foreign correspondent in Washington before returning to Taiwan to take up the CTiTV anchor slot in 2009. Police found no signs of forced entry at his home. An investigation into his death is underway.
