Supreme Court today rejected the bail plea of Kerala-based PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 serial blasts. Rejecting Madani's plea, court ordered that he should be admitted to Manipal hospital for better treatment and the expenses for the treatment must be taken up by the Karnataka Government.

Madani had submitted he was a chronic diabetic and wheelchair dependent. He said he also suffers from cardiac problems, disc prolapse, cervical spondylosis and has been diagnosed with 'diabetic retinopathy' (eye ailment).

Karnataka Government opposed Madani's plea on health grounds stating it will affect the investigation process and every possibility to obstruct the trial process with his political influences.

Supreme Court clearly states that after treatment his application will be considered positively.

Karnataka Government  also opposed Madani's contention that he was suffering from an extreme diabetic condition due to which he was losing his eyesight and needed immediate treatment.

Karnataka Government contended that Madani, against whom 56 cases have been filed, was trying to gain sympathy by citing false health grounds again and again before the court and jail doctors are capable of treating the accused.

Counsel for Madani Mr. Prasant Bhooshan argued that he is behind the bars for the last tow years without trial and his health conditions were very pathetic.

The Kerala Government’s position in the court is that the issue of granting bail to Madani has nothing to do with it and no objections to granting bail. The Government is prepared to arrange all necessary security measures for Madani in the State if he is granted bail.

Madani, arrested in Kerala on August 17, 2010, and sent to judicial custody, has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail since then. He is among 31 persons chargesheeted in the case relating to the July 2008 blasts in Bangalore that killed a woman and left 20 others injured.
