Chembai Sangeetholsavam, Guruvayoor is a 15-day Carnatic music festival will be conducted in November. This festival is celebrated as the memory of Carnatic maestro Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatahar, one of the titans of Carnatic Classical Music.Here about 2000-2500 musicians participate in this festival every year, when all the musicians sing 5 favourite songs of Chembai and also the Pancharatna Kritis of Thyagaraja. Only Hindus are permitted to participate in the music festival. Those below the age of 10 years are not eligible to apply. The applicant should have at least 3 years training in Carnatic music.

Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar was a malayali Carnatic Music singer, from Palakkad, (State of Kerala) known by his village name CHEMBAI. He was born to Anantha Bhagavathar and Parvathi ammal at kottayi in 1896, on Janmashtami day, with Bharani star in the month of Chingam. Chembai was noted for his powerful voice and majestic style of singing. His public performance was in 1904, and he was 9 years. He was a receipient of several titles and honours. He was known for his encouragement of upcoming musicians, and also for his ability to spot new talent. He was responsible for popularizing composition like Rakshamam, Pavana Guru, among others. Some of the prominent Disciples include K. J YESUDAS, T. V GOPLAKRISHNAN, V.V SUBRAMANIAN, P.LEELA. Many Memorial Music festivals are held in his honour annually. Since his death on 16th October 1974, is the most Important being the annually celebrated Chembai Sangeetholsavam. Chembai Music Festival is held annually at GURUVAYUR, ON EKADASI DAY , IN NOVEMBER every year.
